Groups meeting at the Madrid Deep Space Comunication Centre (MDSCC)

Last weekly meeting was held in a very special place: the Madrid Deep Space Comunication Centre. It is a ground station, part of the NASA's Deep Space Network, run by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The complex hosts 5 antennas, with a diameter ranging from 26 to 70 meters. They are used for telemetry, commanding and tracking of spacecraft far from Earth (deep space missions).

The visit included the viewing of 3 very instructive videos about the work perfomed at the MDSCC, the Curiosity mission and the NASA DSN. We saw the exhibition with all the astronaut and space-related stuff they have in the visitors center. We finished the tour seeing one of the optical telescopes of the CESAR project.

Afterwards we gathered around some tables in the visitors centre and took this amazing chance to discuss about how we will download the experiment data and will the telemetry will look like (for matching GPS positions with images, for instance). We spend a couple of hours talking about the projects, the status and future work. You can check how they are going at their group journal logs (for the new entries check the 'Project updates' tab):
